Cover Crops Supply for Taiwan | Chemiseed International

Chemiseed supplies leguminous cover crop seeds and SoilBoost EA soil conditioner to Taiwanese growers, importers, and research programs where shade-tolerant tropical and subtropical legumes fit the system. Cover crops fix nitrogen, hold soil on slopes, suppress weeds, and build organic matter on subtropical mineral soils.

At a glance: Taiwan context

  • Tea: Tea plantations in central and southern Taiwan (Nantou, Chiayi, Pingtung) operate on sloping land where cover and ground-layer biomass support soil structure.
  • Orchards: Fruit orchards (mango, pineapple, citrus, banana) in central and southern counties use inter-row legumes for organic matter and weed suppression.
  • Specialty and research: Taiwan's agricultural research institutes have documented Centrosema pubescens and Calopogonium spp. in subtropical agronomy literature.
  • Common challenges: typhoon-season rainfall, erosion on sloping orchards and tea blocks, and the subtropical climate at the edge of the tropical species range.

Cover crop species relevant to Taiwan

Centrosema pubescens (CP): shade tolerant for orchards and tea

CP is shade tolerant and has been documented in subtropical agronomy literature including Taiwan. Seeding rate: 3 to 4.5 kg/ha. It is suited to orchard inter-rows and tea blocks where light at ground level is moderate.

Calopogonium caeruleum (CC): shade tolerant and persistent

CC is shade tolerant and persistent under canopy, used in mixed covers for orchards and tea where light availability is limited. Seeding rate: 3 to 4.5 kg/ha.

Calopogonium mucunoides (CM): fast pioneer

CM establishes quickly in the warm season and gives rapid early ground cover, useful as a pioneer on newly planted orchard blocks. Seeding rate: 4 to 6 kg/ha as a mono stand. Cool-season performance is limited at the subtropical-temperate margin.

Mucuna bracteata (MB): nursery-raised dense cover

MB is suited where warm-season biomass is the goal. It is nursery-raised and transplanted at about 320 seedlings per hectare (roughly 85 to 100 g of seed per hectare). It is not broadcast like the other species.

Note: Pueraria javanica (tropical kudzu) is less commonly used in Taiwan given the subtropical climate at the edge of its tropical range. Species fit depends on the planting site and altitude, and we will discuss this in the quote conversation.

SoilBoost EA on subtropical orchard and tea soils

SoilBoost EA is a Leonardite-derived humic acid soil conditioner manufactured exclusively by Chemiseed Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia. It is 60.6% humic acid by the CDFA method, pH 3.84, with 0.45% sulfur. On acidic, leached mineral soils typical of central and southern Taiwan, a humic acid conditioner supports soil condition and structure. SoilBoost EA is applied by broadcast at 50 to 100 kg/ha or by drench at 10 to 15 kg/ha. It is a soil conditioner: it is not a fertiliser substitute and not a disease treatment.

Pertanyaan yang Sering Diajukan

Which cover crops are suitable for Taiwanese orchards?

Centrosema pubescens and Calopogonium caeruleum are shade tolerant and suited to orchard inter-rows. Calopogonium mucunoides is used as a warm-season pioneer at establishment.

Is Pueraria javanica suitable for Taiwan?

PJ is at the edge of its tropical range in Taiwan and is less commonly used. Species fit depends on the planting site and altitude, and we will discuss this in the quote conversation.

What does SoilBoost EA do?

SoilBoost EA is a humic acid soil conditioner that supports soil condition and structure on acidic, leached mineral soils. It is applied at 50 to 100 kg/ha by broadcast or 10 to 15 kg/ha by drench. It is not a fertiliser substitute.
